I have very limited interactions directly with entrepreneurs, athletes, business leaders and other highly successful people, but what I’ve notice in them all is that extraordinary achievers often share common characteristics and attributes. While these people may have many attributes, I would like to touch upon the 6 highly visible and critical habits of theirs. This list is certainly worth striving for in your personal life and is also pretty easy. The tough part is in execution and sustenance. These points when internalised would help you to progress greater distance in both your personal and professional life. Assess yourself to determine where growth opportunities exist.

It's March time and 2 things come to my mind immediately. One is the tax month with no salary on hand and the other is Women's day. WOMEN: I have always spent time with them since the moment I entered this world. Right from the nurse who helped me to out, to my mother, to the aunts, sisters and finally to my wife and daughter. It looks like I cannot exists without them. They have been there to shape me to what I am today. But I have a strong reservation about this women's day. Born into Vaishnavism, I find that its strange to celebrate just one day for them since the entire preaching of Vaishnavism is based on श्री (ஸ்ரீ - Shri). A tradition that believes in श्री (ஸ்ரீ - Shri) to be the most the important one and is celebrated on a daily basis. Nevertheless, for this Women's day I wanted to express what I felt about them. Who are those women who have inspired me in my life in one way or another. So I start with my Wife & my Mother. I had to spend a lot of time deliberating on whom do I type first but then found it's tough to decide between the right & left eye. These are the two women who have constantly steered me in this world (even now as I type). My mother has taught me the 3Ps - Perseverance, Patience & Peace. These 3 qualities have come only from her, most of the time through indirect teaching. My wife has taught me the 3Cs - Compassion, Commitment & Control. If I exhibit any of these qualities, then it is they who have inculcated the quality inside of me. I would like to list a few of those who have truly inspired me till today, there is no logical order to it. Everyone at some point of time in their life would have dreamt of starting to work out. Let us see how many of them really did start? 100% of the people whom I recently surveyed answered yes, they had this goal at some point of time in their life but only 10% have actually transferred this dream into reality. Working out seems to be the most used goal or new year resolution and is also the most procrastinated goal that you can find. Why make you guilty, even I am in the same boat. Most of us use some sort of a rationalisation to put this goal in the back burners and finally end up letting it go. While this is TRUE, there are some people who stay fit effortlessly. When there is an obstacle, most people (90% of us) fall of the course while others (the remaining 10%) this goal is like second nature to them. How can you get in the habit of working out, so that you don’t have to worry about skipping workouts? What do you mean by Rationalisation? The dictionary meaning is: the cognitive process of making something seem consistent with or based on reason. Another way to put it is a defense mechanism by which your true motivation is concealed by explaining your actions and feelings in a way that is not threatening. (Psychatric explanation) Why do we rationalize in the first place? When something happens that we find difficult to accept, then we will make up a logical reason why it has happened. The target of rationalization is usually something that we have done, such as being unkind to another person. It may also be used when something happens independent of us which causes us discomfort, such as when a friend is unkind to us. We not only rationalize actions and the things we have done, we also find reason for our beliefs, models, values and other inner structures and thoughts. These systems are often implied in rationalization statements. We rationalize to ourselves. We also find it very important to rationalize to other people, even those we do not know. Have you wondered who listens the maximum to your talking? Yes it's true - it's your own self. Our internal conversations is what manifests on the outside as our characteristics. This conversation which we have within ourselves defines how we view the world, relationships, achievements, success & failures and ultimately leading to our happiness index. So it is very logical that if we have a positive conversations on the inside, the outside self would be very vibrant and happy. Suppose if the internal dialogue focuses on your faults, mistakes, weaknesses, insecurities, fears or other negative things, it will be virtually impossible to feel good about yourself and advance your life forward. Furthermore negative thinking can have a detrimental effect on your health and overall quality of life. On the other hand, if we concentrates on your strengths, blessings, successes, opportunities and other positive thoughts, you will feel great about yourself. You’ll enhance your ability to overcome obstacles and as a whole your life will become more enjoyable and fulfilling. |
