Rahul Dravid or THE WALL as we all know him is a truly professional sportsman with high integrity and well defined habits. There are lots of things which we can learn from his personal and professional life. As a salute to the great player, I thought I can pick up the top 7 leadership qualities which are very much associated with him. Many do not know that he was the top scorer in the 7th ODI World Cup held in England. He finished with 461 runs, a perfect response to people who kept insisting that he was only a TEST batsmen and never good for the One Days.

“Most of the successful people I’ve known are the ones who do more listening than talking.” ~ Bernard M. Baruch
Ask any parent or a teacher for the need to be a good listener and they will lecture you for hours. It's quiet ironical that there are so many people who teach "Public Speaking" while not many teach the art of listening. There is a myth that good speakers are good communicators. In fact, listening is equally, if not more, important for effective communications. This skill for some reason has not be inculcated in any form of education to us until we reach the corporate world. Being a good listener is one of the most important skills you can master if you want to advance your career and build meaningful relationships. When you are really listening, you show both interest in the other person as well as what they are trying to communicate. Listening is a magnetic force that draws people to us. "I love doing what I do. I love asking questions. I love being in the mix." - Larry King
Rules governing questions and answers have changed a lot in the past few years. They are constantly been under revision. What were legitimate good interview questions a couple of decades ago is today a classic case for a federal lawsuit. Knowing how to ask a good question was always an important skill but today this skill is slowly diminishing. One has to take care of the sensitivity, ethical and racial aspects into consideration in today's context. So let's try to understand what has changed and what has not on how can we be most effective at this skill. "Nothing ever comes to one, that is worth having, except as a result of hard work." - Booker T. Washington If we do a quick research on the key parameters for success, we’ll find plenty of resources. Some people will call them the only secrets to success you need to know, while others will refer to this information as principles, elements, steps, factors, or else. But the truth is there’s only one thing you can’t go without if you want to succeed in any area of life, and that’s HARD WORK. |
