In today's world everything in life is Fast and Furious. You take anything, it has speed and complexity involved into it. People have fallen into this trap - need for speed. Right from your daily news, car, phone, internet, washing machine we have lost patience as a virtue and require only SPEED. All this speed leads us to a lot of stress. I can say with 100% conviction that everyone in this world has some kind of stress and not everyone knows how to deal with it. Trying to undo the tension can just add more stress if you take the wrong approach. Many people want to de-stress and few know how to do it well. There are many different ways to relieve stress as suggested by Madeline R Vann, MPH, in an article titled "10 Tips to Help You De-Stress" which was published in Everyday Health.
Get In Motion: Numerous studies have shown that exercising has a positive effect on the mood. The neural chemicals released while exercising helps in rejuvenating the wellness of the body and the mind. By exercise, I mean just do some sort of motion such as walking, jogging, cycling or even a small game with children. Get To Giggle: Laughter is the best medicine - an age old saying is still worth its weight in gold in the present day context. Laughing triggers the release of endorphin, the body's nature feel good chemical. This chemical reduces the stress hormones and increases immune cells. Thus it improves the resistance to disease in our body. Another aspect is that while enjoying laughter, the mind is distracted from the problem momentarily thus bringing us back to normalcy within seconds. Get Fresh Air: If you are shut both in your mind and your physical space, take a few minutes to enjoy the outdoor. Go out and get some sun on your skin, some fresh air to blow on your face. A little time outdoor can improve your mood and help you relax. Get A Variation: Many a times, it's easier to solve the problem by removing the root of the problem. In some cases, the root may not be under your control. For example the job in which you are currently demands a different pace than what you are comfortable, or your stress comes from your boss or few co-workers. In such cases, it is wise to change the environment in which you are to solve the problem. Do not continue in the same environment which is creating the stress, it only aggravates. Get Decisive: As much as the people close to you maybe the problem, not able to say NO is also a top cause for stress. Saying "NO" when you want to is a very good stress relieving technique. This does not imply that you say NO to all the things since it is important for you to honor the commitments at work, family and social gatherings. Managing your obligations by choosing the correct tasks often relieves the stress a lot. Get Self-Centered: When situations which rises the tension levels, it is very normal for the person to put himself as the last priority. In reality, we need to do the other way around - prioritise healthy eating habits, time, physical activities and sleep which are bare necessary for avoiding stressful situations. It's better for you to look after yourself first before attacking the problems at hand. Stress relief - Unwise choices: Many people turn to a lot of others ways to handle stress which are very harmful for them. They include:
I have to make one point here before closing which is that the Tamil Nadu film fraternity seems to show all of the above points as a good stress relieving agent. It may seem as a harmless scene but has far reaching effect on the person when actually doing it. Another point is that it is far easier and proven to use some stress relieving steps than to go for medications. Some stress are chronic and requires treatment, my point is for all the others which do not fall into this category. I did not mention socialising as one tip since I presumed that it was ingrained in our system that we are not so individualist at least in our work/family area.
