The best way to predict the future is to create it. - Peter Drucker Some months back, my son was lying down and reading in his room with his light source behind him. As usual, I started to shout at him and said the light should always shine from your left. Then he looked sharply at my face and asked "Why?". I responded to him "Look, you have a long time to go and your eyesight should be good." He returned to his book "Appa, my eyes are fine. What are you worrying about?" I said "Sustainability. Can your eyes take this sort of abuse" He immediately dropped the book "What do you mean by Sustainability?" I wanted it to be simple, so I gave this explanation. Sustainability consists of fulfilling the need of current without compromising future requirements. "Yeah yeah, I know that" my son replied nonchalantly. "Why this cynicism?" "Look here" he showed the book to me. It was Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. "This book says that the move to become an agrarian community is not a good move" I started to nod while he continued "I know you will negate me". He paused for a while "But is there something about this issue in our ancient scriptures?" "Why do you think it is not there?" "Well, Sustainability is all a new concept, right?" "Who said, let me tell you this story" and I started to narrate the story about Raja Vena. A descendant of the first Manu, and a very notorious one. What was the notoriety about? It was that he always plundered the resources of Earth. When it went beyond the toleration limits of the sages, they all ran for help to Brahma & Vishnu. Vishnu instructed the killing of the king using the blades of dry grass (தர்ப்பை - Darbhai in Tamil). Later they churned the dead body in a ritual where 2 people emerged. The person who came out of the left arm was "Nishad". He wanted to live in the jungle as per the jungle laws "Won't farm but will hunt and gather food". (Nishad has got a negative connotation now but, in Sanskrit, it means to live close to nature. This is another topic for another day). The other person who came out of the right arm is "Prithu" who wanted to live in a community. He aimed to farm and feed the community but also ensured that his wants never turned to greed. In this period, the Earth manifested itself as a cow. It was very anxious about Prithu's desire to feed everyone. So it went and met him. Both of them came to an understanding. The agreement was that Prithu would not harm the cow but instead will take milk from it. The cow on its behalf requested that Prithu feed her enough for extracting enough milk. My son stopped me here "The deal seems fine. What is wrong with it" Smilingly I retorted, "Scale is the problem." "Meaning?" "After some time, the community size increased. Hence the need for more cows. More cows required more grazing land." "What's the problem? Earth has plenty to give." "Plenty for whom? The moment farming and grazing started to happen; they encroached on the forest area. This is where the feud began. Nishad did not want his territory compromised. I stopped "Now you see the problem?" My son now turned into a devil's advocate and asked "What if everyone stayed back in the forest? Even then they would have faced a similar problem. Lesser number of animals to hunt. So what is the solution then Appa?" "Son, the answer is very simple. Sustainability is possible only when there is balance." "Balance between what?" "NEED vs GREED." Registering a Private Limited Company involves selecting a unique name and preparing documents like Articles of Association and Memorandum of Association. At least two directors, a registered office address, and a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) for directors are essential. Obtaining Director Identification Number (DIN), filing required forms, and paying fees to the Registrar of Companies (RoC) are part of the process. Upon approval, a Certificate of Incorporation is issued, legally establishing the company. This structure provides limited liability, separating personal assets from the business, enabling smooth operations, and fostering credibility for attracting investments and conducting business. Compliance with regulations is crucial.
